
Ecosystem Development for Sustainable Travel & Tourism Webinar
On 2nd August 2023 – EABC co-organised a webinar on “Ecosystem Development for Sustainable Travel & Tourism,” with the EuroCham Singapore, EuroCham Malaysia, EuroCham Philippines, and Booking.com via Zoom.
The opening remarks was delivered by Ms. Nele Cornelis, Executive Director, EuroCham Singapore, followed by a presentation on Ecosystem Development for Sustainable Travel & Tourism by Mr. Yang Li, Head of Public Affairs – APAC, Booking.com, delving into key challenges faced by different stakeholders, encompassing topics such as food waste and plastic utilization in the accommodation sector, achieving net-zero objectives and influencing consumer behavior within the airline sector, recognition of sustainability and certifications within the government sector, as well as preferences and perceptions of sustainability among consumers.
A panel discussion followed was moderated by Mr. Corrado Chr. Forcellati, Director, Paia Consulting and panelists included:
-Ms. Danielle D’Silva, Head of Sustainability, Booking.com;
-Mr. Atty Eugene Yap, President & Chairman, Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Philippines (HRAP);
-Mr. Philipp Bonkatz, General Manager Singapore, Malaysia & Brunei, Lufthansa Group;
-Mrs. Titiporn Manenate, Executive Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand;
-Mr. Olivier Lenoir, General Manager, Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur.
This session provided valuable insights into ecosystem development, such as raising awareness within local communities, promoting sustainable guidance from the government to private stakeholders, fostering collaboration among all stakeholders, and offering incentives for sustainable practices.
