EABC – Public-Private Forum: From Europe to Thailand

On 10 July 2026, EABC representatives attended the Public-Private Forum: From Europe to Thailand – Best Practices and Partnerships for Sustainable Packaging Solutions, hosted by the Department of European Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

A key focus of the discussion was the European Union’s evolving sustainability framework, particularly the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) which is expected to have significant implications for global supply chains and exporters. The session also highlighted the PPWR implementation timeline, including requirements on packaging compliance, harmonised labelling, recyclability, recycled content, and sustainable packaging design, with key obligations beginning on 12 August 2026 and additional requirements being phased in through 2030.

The discussion emphasised that sustainability regulations should not be viewed solely as trade barriers, but as an opportunity for businesses to rethink product design, production processes, and innovation strategies to enhance long-term competitiveness in global markets.

Mr. Sirapak Hongwattanakul, Vice Chair of the EABC Food, Agriculture and Beverages Working Group joined the panel discussion. Drawing on Danone’s experience as a European company that has been proactively aligning with the implementation of the EU’s sustainability regulations, he shared practical insights on preparing for PPWR compliance, the challenges and opportunities for businesses, and the importance of public-private collaboration in supporting Thailand’s transition towards more sustainable packaging.

EABC remains committed to fostering constructive dialogue between the public and private sectors, strengthening EU–Thailand cooperation, and helping businesses prepare for the evolving environmental and regulatory landscape.
