EABC – Strengthening IP Enforcement in Thailand: Challenges, Best Practices, and the Role of Businesses in Combating Illicit Trade Recap
Thank you to everyone who joined us on 18 February 2026 at Spaces, Chamchuri Square for the seminar “Strengthening IP Enforcement in Thailand: Challenges, Best Practices, and the Role of Businesses in Combating Illicit Trade.”
The European Association for Business and Commerce (EABC), in collaboration with the South-East Asia IP SME Helpdesk under the support of the European Commission, organised this seminar to enhance understanding of Thailand’s intellectual property (IP) enforcement landscape and efforts to combat illicit trade. The initiative also aims to promote effective IP protection aligned with international standards as Thailand advances its aim for OECD accession and EU-Thailand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, where transparent regulations and effective enforcement remain key priorities.
The event convened government representatives, enforcement authorities, IP experts, and business leaders to exchange perspectives on enforcement challenges, best practices, and the critical role of the private sector.
We were pleased to open the programme with remarks from Mrs. Paranee Adulyapichet, President of EABC, who encouraged a spirit of open dialogue and cross-sector collaboration to strengthen IP enforcement and reinforce business confidence. We were honoured to hear from Ms. Prewprae Chumrum, Deputy Director General of the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), who underscored Thailand’s commitment to effective IP enforcement and recognising intellectual property as a strategic economic asset that underpins innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable growth. We also warmly welcomed Claire Castel, IP Regional Attaché for Southeast Asia at the Delegation of the European Union to Thailand, who shared valuable regional perspectives on IP policy and cooperation.
The discussions reinforced a clear message of regulatory credibility, transparency, and coordinated enforcement are essential to strengthening Thailand’s competitiveness and investment attractiveness.
EABC has launched a new publication:
“Perspectives and Recommendations on Thailand’s Illicit Trade Situation and Policy Recommendations.”
The report provides a comprehensive overview of Thailand’s illicit trade landscape across key sectors and offers practical policy recommendations to reinforce enforcement effectiveness and long-term economic resilience.
