EU-ASEAN Business Council Digital Economy/ICT group

The kick-off meeting for 2023 for the EU-ASEAN Business Council Digital Economy/ICT group was held on 19 January 2023. From EABC, Mr Bob Fox, board director and chair Digital Economy/ICT group and Dr Charanya Nopnukulvised, Operations Director participated.

A menu of possible areas of focus was discussed, which include:

i.   Multi location services, cloud and necessary supporting regulation
ii.  Digital for Sustainability
iii. Skills and the talent gap
iv. Digital Platforms governance
v.  Digital Taxes – tax collection in eCommerce context
vi.  Cross border digital trade
vii. Cybersecurity collaboration

The group also plans to engage regionally with ASEAN and also propose a dialogue with digital ministers or permanent secretaries. The group will also aim to get a better grasp on the potentially confusing and overlapping ASEAN digital instruments. (There is a long list in EABCs 2022 European Business Position Paper at the end of the Digital Economy/ICT Chapter).  This engagement is covered in the EABC/JFCCT Digital Economy/ICT Working Group.
