The European Chamber of Commerce, Thailand (EABC) is the leading voice for European business in Thailand, with advocacy, recognition and value-add at the core of our mission. We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Business Development Director to join our focused, informed, and committed team. At its core the Business Development Director is responsible for managing membership, events and communications.

In this role, you will be the driving force behind EABC’s comprehensive and evolving business development agenda (membership enhancement and growth, impactful events and EABC positioning), while also being cognizant and supportive of EABC’s important advocacy mission. Your leadership will be crucial in fostering relationships, promoting European business interests, and enhancing our presence in the Thai market.

The Business Development Director will lead member engagement and enrollment efforts, both for existing and new members. This role will also encompass the design and execution of EABC’s development initiatives and strategic events portfolio. This position is pivotal in growing the EABC business community, enhancing EABC’s visibility, value proposition, and partnerships with European and Thai stakeholders, as well as the broader business community. The ideal candidate will possess strong commercial acumen combined with a diplomatic approach to effectively engage members and drive initiatives that benefit them. Key skills include event mastery and effective stakeholder engagement.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE EXPECTED TO:

  1. Develop the EABC Strategic Marketing Plan covering the core value proposition, key messaging, target members (renewals and new targets), marketing mix, events and related activity plan and budget
  2. Develop and implement strategies to attract and enroll new members as well as maintain strong relationships with existing members to ensure high retention, satisfaction, and engagement.
  3. Design and delver compelling membership value propositions, including visibility, and networking opportunities.
  4. Build an omni marketing presence emphasizing online reach and engagement activities, including via the EABC website, LinkedIn and other social media platforms
  5. Identify and pursue strategic partnership opportunities including coordinating sponsorship, grants, or collaborative initiatives.
  6. Align business development efforts with EABC’s advocacy, communications, and policy agenda; work with and support colleagues directly involved in advocacy.
  7. Plan, lead, and evaluate high-profile events, such as policy forums, business luncheons, conferences, and bilateral dialogues.
  8. Be responsible for the end-to-end event management; concept development, budget planning, coordination, logistics, event promotion and post-event evaluation to ensure impactful outcomes.
  9. Develop and oversee the EABC’s communications strategy, value narratives, messages across communications platforms to support internal and member update and external visibility, always being in harmony with advocacy propositions
  10. Coordinate communications support for advocacy activities, working group initiatives, and event promotion in coordination with the Operations Director and Advocacy Manager.
  11. Where relevant to the role, represent EABC in the meetings, and events including those of other chambers of commerce, strengthen, and expand EABC’s network through consistent engagement and trust-building.
  12. Align and collaborate closely with Operations Director and Advocacy Manager to synchronize outreach and policy messages in all external engagement and events.
  13. Maintain calendar of EABC events, reports, and tracked KPIs across membership, and events, and regularly update to the Board of EABC

COMPETENCIES NEEDED TO UNDERTAKE THIS ROLE:

Knowledge:

A demonstrated understanding of, and keen interest in, the business, economic and political landscape, in Thailand, regionally and being aware of global trends and influences

Communication Skills:

Proficiency in spoken, written, and presentation in Thai and English; ability to draft communication messages ideally in both languages, and public speaking.

Aptitude:

  • Strategic and results-driven with hands-on execution capability
  • Enthusiasm, drive and a passion for the role
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working across cultures and teams.
  • Project management and capable of managing multiple priorities, coordinating groups, and time management towards outcomes.

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in business marketing, communications, international relations, or a related field.

Work Experience:

At least two years in business development, events, marketing communications, or membership engagement; preferably in an international chamber, trade association, or corporate public relations function. Experiences in demonstrating success in growing memberships and partnerships or strong track record of leading events and communication would be a plus.
