Breakfast Seminar on “Managing your IP in a world full of AI and Other Digital Technologies”

On 6 February 2024,  EABC representatives, Mr. Jan Eriksson, Vice President; Mr. Bob Fox, Board Director and Chair of Digital Economy/ICT, and Dr. Charanya Nopnukulvised, Operations Director, participated in a Breakfast Seminar on “Managing your IP in a world full of AI and Other Digital Technologies”, organised by SweCham and the South-East Asia IP SME Helpdesk with support from EABC and JFCCT at Oriental Residence Bangkok.

The seminar aimed to provide valuable insights and strategies for European SMEs in Thailand to effectively manage their Intellectual Property amidst the rapidly evolving landscape of new digital technologies.

The seminar was curated by Mr. Bob Fox, (EABC Board Director and Chair of Digital Economy/ICT Working Group) with the aim of showing ‘how to’ for various AI tools, and then covering developments in intellectual property aspects of AI and ‘how to’ advice on protecting interests. Mr Bob Fox provided an overview of the approaches to AI Governance, emphasising Ethical or Trustworthy AI under a ‘Responsible AI’ umbrella, and outlined the issues. He also moderated the panel discussion featuring key experts, Ms. Mook Chaichirawiwat, Country Manager of Thinking Machines Data Science, Mr. Franck Fougère, Managing Director of Ananda Intellectual Property, who had also presented at the event.

Highly relevant topics about the need for Responsible AI, the intersection of AI and IP, whether IP can exist in an AI generated work. and liability issues related to its misuse. All three experts emphasized that AI tools are open to be tried, the importance of ethical AI programming and advocated for establishing guidelines and codes to ensure responsible management of IP in the digital era.

In keeping with self-help as one aspect of familiarisation with AI, the Digital Economy/ICT Working Group has developed this AI Compendium, based on real experience with developing AI Governance (part A) and various verticals (part C) and various DIY tools (part D):
