Background of the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM)
The Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) is the official executive agency of the European Union administering and enforcing trademarks and designs. OHIM administers the registration of the Community trade mark (CTM) and Community design (RCD), which are essential components of the European single market. These registrations provide trade mark and design protection throughout the European Union, which covers 27 countries and almost 500m people. The Office also works in close partnership with national IP offices in the EU member states, with international offices, and the European Commission on a wide range of issues affecting the owners and users of intellectual property rights.
OHIM was recently entrusted by the European Commission with the implementation of the EU-ASEAN Project on Intellectual Property Rights (ECAP III) Phase II following the reformulation and realignment of the project activities to be in conformity with the ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2011-2015. The ECAP III Office held the opening ceremony of its office on 12 July 2013 which was graced by President of OHIM, Mr Campinos. In this occasion, EABC has secured the opportunity to organize a Business Luncheon with Mr Campinos as an honorary guest speaker aiming at presenting the mission of OHIM and “how OHIM serves the business community in Europe and abroad” including in Thailand to EABC members and European business community.
