SUMMARY:Virtual ARISE Plus Roundtable Discussion Series: Key Trade Facilitation Issues within the Context of the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA)\, 6-9 December 2022
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite you and your members to participate in our flagship Roundtable Discussions on Trade Facilitation (RDonTF)\, which will be held virtually (via Zoom) from 6th to 9th December 2022. The detailed program/agenda is annexed to this Invitation\, for your reference. \nThis year’s RDonTF series will present and delve on ten specific trade facilitation issues within the context of the ATIGA vis-a-vis key developments in trade negotiations and trade agreements at the multilateral\, regional and bilateral levels as reflected in the policy briefs\, as follows: \nDay 1: 6 December (Tue)\,\n14:00 – 15:30H \nSession 1: ‘New Generation’ PTAs and ATIGA’s Structural Reform\nSession 2: ‘Digitalisation and E-commerce Facilitation’\nSession 3: ‘Trade and Sustainable Development’ \nDay 2: 7 December (Wed)\,\n14:00 – 15:30H \nSession 4: Regulatory Transparency and Private Sector Engagement                          Session 5: Streamlining of Non-Tariff Measures (NTMs) and Removal of  Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs)\nSession 6: Dispute Avoidance and Dispute Settlement \nDay 3: 8 December (Thu)\,\n14:00 – 15:15H \nSession 7: ‘ASEAN Centrality’ and Rules of Origin                                                          Session 8: ASEAN Supply Chain Connectivity \nDay 4: 9 December (Fri)\,\n14:00 – 15:15H \nSession 9: Agricultural Trade and SPS Facilitation\nSession 10: Non-Agricultural Trade and TBT Facilitation \nMoreover\, this initiative aims to gather inputs and insights from the ASEAN business community on the impact of these new developments on businesses and their trade activities in the ASEAN region. The role of the private sector in the ASEAN economic integration is important as a key stakeholder in the process\, particularly in identifying impediments towards deeper regional economic integration and in designing regional strategies and initiatives. The AEC Blueprint 2025 recognises that greater involvement and more structured participation of the private sector will be beneficial to the achievement of its goals. \n‘Key takeaways’ from the RDonTF sessions will therefore be included in the ARISE Plus recommendations to ASEAN\, for consideration and inclusion in ongoing discussions\, future work programmes and strategic action plans. This will also help ASEAN policy-makers and negotiators in identifying priority issues/topics of importance for the ATIGA Upgrade. \nTo confirm your participation\, kindly register for the relevant sessions that you wish to attend by 2nd December 2022 using the following registration link: https://forms.gle/YfyJ4yikzQDiJtvJ8. \nPlease note that you are required to register for each of the sessions separately. Participation is completely free-of-charge. \nThe dedicated Zoom links and the relevant materials for the convening of these sessions will be provided to you upon registration. The sessions will be conducted/facilitated by the ARISE Plus team and experts. \nIf you have any queries or require additional information\, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Novia Firda\, ARISE Plus Senior Project Officer\, at novia.firda@asean.org and/or Ms. Maes Alconcel\, ARISE Plus Senior Expert\, at maes.alconcel@gmail.com

SUMMARY:EU-ABC Webinar: Road Safety for Two-Wheelers in ASEAN
DESCRIPTION:The EU-ABC is organising a webinar to encourage the mandatory implementation of anti-lock braking system (ABS) on two-wheelers across ASEAN on 28 July\, 3-4pm Bangkok time. \nSaving Lives in ASEAN – Hitting the Brakes on Preventable Road Traffic Deaths\, will argue for the case of ABS in motorcycles\, looking at the system’s benefits and effectiveness\, as well as how to encourage its adoption across ASEAN given the pressing need to save lives on roads. \nMore than 300\,000 lives were lost on the roads in 2019 across Southeast Asia\, and riders of powered two- and three-wheelers account for two-thirds of that number. There is a disproportionately high number of motorcycle deaths and injuries in developing countries\, which makes it even more important for governments and other key stakeholders to put rider safety at the top of their agendas. \nOne crucial way is to put in place crash avoidance technologies\, in particular the motorcycle anti-lock braking system (ABS). Motorcycle ABS is among the most effective technologies to date – it increases rider stability\, reduces stopping distances\, and decreases fatality by more than 30%. There is thus an urgent need to democratise safety around the world\, and especially in the ASEAN region\, through the application of a motorcycle ABS standard\, and empowering consumers to be able to buy a motorcycle that is equipped with ABS. \nWhile such a legislation is supported by the UN under its recommendations of vehicle safety standards\, there is a lack of implementation. \nEvent Detail: \nDate: Thursday\, 28 July 2022 \nTime: 3-4pm BKK time \nRegistration: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_6isb_l9qQguLtO_c-GJmYw

SUMMARY:Thailand Economic Monitor
DESCRIPTION:The World Bank Thailand Office would like to invite you to the launch of Thailand Economic Monitor: Building Back Better\, Greener and Resilient – The Circular Economy on June 30\, 9:30-11:00 AM. The event will be held in a hybrid-format\, both virtual and in-person (VIE Hotel Bangkok). \nThailand’s GDP growth has picked up modestly since the surge in COVID-19 cases last year\, but economic activity remained below pre-pandemic levels in the first quarter of 2022\, in contrast to countries such as Malaysia\, Philippines and Indonesia which have recovered more quickly. We are pleased to invite you to the launch of the Thailand Economic Monitor June 2022 edition on Building Back Better\, Greener and Resilient – The Circular Economy. SUMMARY:Arise Plus Thailand Appeals Mechanism Workshop For The Private Sector
DESCRIPTION:The International Trade Centre (ITC)\, a joint agency of the World Trade Organization and the United Nations\, is implementing the ARISE Plus Thailand Project\, funded by the European Union. This 3-year project\, which started on 1 November 2020\, is implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce/Department of Trade Negotiations of Thailand. \nThe project aims to support inclusive and sustainable trade growth and poverty reduction in Thailand\, while contributing to economic integration in the ASEAN region. One of the specific objectives of the project is to improve efficiency of public expenditure\, by contributing to enhancing the capacity of the Comptroller General Department (CGD) for the application of the public procurement framework in accordance with international standards. As such\, the International Trade Centre has developed a report on reforms to the Public Procurement Appeal Mechanism in Thailand\, considering relevant international guidelines and experiences. \nTo complement this\, a Workshop is being held on 24 June 2022 from 13:00 – 17:00 at Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Hotel to present and discuss the findings and key recommendations of the report with relevant private sector representatives in order to understand the key challenges and priorities in the Thai context for effective policy reform. \nITC invites all companies members of EABC to participate in the upcoming workshop. \nPlease find the program of the workshop here on EABC’s website: \nPlease register by 20 June 2022 through the following link: \nhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Lpz5xvWqVeMjNub6qX1IFAnP3TsHRZoYmQpzx5EFXAE/viewform?edit_requested=true
