SUMMARY:BIG18: Lost in Translation
DESCRIPTION:Date: 30 August 2017 (06:00 PM – 09:00 PM)\nVenue: Rembrandt Hotel Bangkok \nLanguage and culture vary drastically from one country to another and should be addressed as a organizational issue rather than an HR issue. But it is not just what you say but rather of how the message is conveyed. \nWhile Northern Europeans might value directness\, Thai people might avoid direct confrontations. Likewise\, Europeans might grow up with multiple languages\, they still find themselves lost in a new cultural environment. Language and culture can sometimes be: same same but very different\, so to say. \nBIG18 aims to clarify how important are different languages and cultural sensitivities in the working environment? Can you afford being passive about not learning a new language and how much profit is lost in regards to ineffective communication? \nAccording to Deliotte University research\, 82% of people questioned believe that culture is a competitive advantage in a global world and can also be the deciding factor during times of change: Mergers\, acquisitions or international expansion. \nWhat the audience can expect:\n* How to create more high-impact customers and employees\n* Different perceptions of time across cultures\n* To meet language professionals\, experienced coaches as well as foreigners who have successfully integrated into Thai culture\n* How stereotypical thinking can negatively affect your business\n* The importance of non verbal communication\nSo to say\, get ready to learn the language of the world. \n ******* SPECIAL FOR EABC MEMBERS : 500 THB. WALK IN RATE ********* \nREGISTRATION : CLICK HERE

SUMMARY:BIG16 Renewable Energy Across AEC
DESCRIPTION:As companies continue to advance its operations and reach\, they look at ways to try and make the output of their operations to be less damaging to the environment. Not only does this form part of the social responsibility strategies for many companies\, it is also a way to become more cost effective whilst ensuring that they are aligned to industry trends that directly affect their customers and employees. \nWhilst companies such as TESLA has been making headlines with its electric powered cars and solar cells\, other initiatives such as water and wind powered energy has proven to be an efficient form of renewable energy generation\, with the latter becoming cheaper to produce than that of traditional energy production from coal and gas in developed countries. \nThailand and other countries within the South East Asia region are also following such trends\, both out of necessity due to carbon tax pressures\, as well because many companies believe it to be the sustainable path to follow. \nDuring #BIG16\, the topic of renewable energy will be discussed\, with a main focus on how the trend towards environmentally friendly energy generation would impact businesses in 2017. Some of the discussion points covered by the Panelists include: \n• How is ASEAN focused on renewable energy and does it impact its approach on a practical level \n• How can companies adopt renewable energy means as a way to increase its image in the eyes of its stakeholders \n• What do companies need to do to become more “environmental” beyond the superficial level\, and is taking such a stance actually good for business?

SUMMARY:Disaster Preparedness Forum organised by CSR Asia and Prudence Foundationat at the Dusit Thani Hotel Bangkok
DESCRIPTION:On 28 April EABC participated in the Disaster Preparedness Forum organised by CSR Asia and Prudence Foundation\, the community investment arm of Prudential in Asia\, at the Dusit Thani Hotel Bangkok. EABC supported this event and were represented by Executive Director Peter Bjork\, Chair of the Infrastructure Rail and Road Working Group Mr. Georg Wolff and EABC staff.\n \nOn its fourth year\, the Disaster Preparedness Forum  addressed the need for disaster resilient settlements throughout Asia. Forum discussions focused on policy and regulatory frameworks\, finance and investment incentives\, as well as on building design and construction. \nThis year’s theme was “Build Better Now” and reflected the significant economic losses and damages in the region due to disasters. Year after year\, this region sees casualties and long-term impacts on livelihoods caused by poorly constructed buildings. People are buried in collapsed structures or forced to live in temporary shelters for months or years after a disaster. To combat this\, buildings\, especially homes\, schools and other vital community facilities must be able to withstand typhoons\, earthquakes and floods. A paradigm shift is required; one that emphasizes multi-sectoral collaboration and pre-disaster funding to lessen significantly the effects of disaster induced losses – covering physical damages\, economic losses and most importantly\, lives lost. T he objective of the Forum was to build the case for greater business engagement and cross-sector partnerships in disaster preparedness and resilience.

Our objective is to build the case for greater business engagement and cross-sector partnerships in disaster preparedness and resilience. \nWho should attend: \n\n\n\n\nCompanies interested in helping reduce disaster risks\, damages and loss by raising their disaster-related CSR efforts to a more strategic\, impactful level and aligning them with the Sustainable Development Goals\n\n\n\nCompanies looking for opportunities to engage in disaster preparedness through inclusive business\, shared value or community investment approaches\n\n\n\nOrganisations seeking more strategic and effective business sector engagement that creates value for all stakeholders\n\n\n\nGovernments looking to build cross-sector partnerships that drive greater investment in community preparedness and resilience\n\n\n\nThe Forum will be conducted in English. All speeches and panel discussions will be simultaneously translated into Thai. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick here for more details

SUMMARY:SETA 2017 on 8-10 March 2017
DESCRIPTION:On 8 to 10 March 2017 EABC joined the SETA 2017 – Sustainable Energy & Technology Asia “Towards a low-Carbone future”. \nEABC organised a European Pavilion  with the following member companies participating Retech Energy\, Rittal\, Poyry and BMW. \nSETA 2017 was organised by Ministry of Energy and Chulalongkorn University\, in collaboration with Ministry of Science and Technology\, Ministry of Transport and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration\, at Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC). The second edition of this event covered four significant topics\, including energy policy making and planning\, low-carbon power generation technology\, energy for low-carbon transportation and smart city and green industry\, which are destined to promote and develop sources of knowledge concerning energy and related technology. This year’s highlights included hybrid technology and electric cars. \nThe opening ceremony was held on 8 March and EABC was represented by our President Rolf-Dieter Daniel\, Vice President Jan Eriksson\, Executive Director Peter Bjork\, Policy Manager Chaladbhum Temkasem and Chair of Automotive Working Group Stefan Teuchert. \nAccording to Deputy Prime Minister Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong\, the Thai government is gearing towards energy security with a continuous attempt to maintain the availability of the country’s energy resources in all forms. He said\, “Our focus on energy development covers everything from manufacturing process\, transportation to distribution and selling. It is essential to make things more practical and reasonable especially in terms of price structure of energy\, which should reflect actual costs and does not place an extra financial burden on the public sector. It should also encourage the country’s long-term development\, reduce impacts on the environment and help promote energy efficiency that allows for sustainable development”. \nGeneral Anantaporn Kanchanarat\, Energy Minister\, said\, “The Energy 4.0 policy is in line with the government’s Thailand 4.0 initiative\, which is set to improve the quality of life\, competitiveness and the average income of Thai people. As part of this\, the Smart Cities Project involves transforming communities into smart cities by promoting energy efficiency with the use of smart grid in order to provide community dwellers with greater convenience and allows for less energy consumption. In addition to the use of clean and environmentally friendly energy\, this sustainable approach also includes the construction of smart buildings and the installation of smart meters to facilitate the most effective management of electricity\, the supply of electricity to people using electric vehicles\, the expansion of charging service to key locations such as shopping centers\, parking lots\, government offices and the production of electric tuk tuk. This high-performance power grid is also expected to help promote tourism and reduce noise and air pollutions. Now researchers are working on high-capacity batteries called energy storage\, which is smaller in size with cheaper price\, but higher in quality. As the effective management of the country’s energy sector relies on various factors\, the Energy Ministry strives to achieve a better balance between energy security\, fairness and environmental protection in order to lead to sustainable success.” \nTransport Minister Lieutenant General Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said\, “Ministry of Transport has developed a draft 20-year strategy for the overall development of Thailand’s transport sector\, starting from 2017 and continues until 2036. This will be used as a framework for Thailand’s future development of transportation network by focusing on development approaches that address changing lifestyles\, transport behaviors and needs of commuters. These can be performed under three main concepts comprising Green Transport\, which concentrates on reducing the use of fossil energy sources and shifting to cleaner or alternative energy as well as promoting environmentally friendly transportation technology. Secondly\, Transport Efficiency is destined to increase transport and logistics efficiency by reducing logistics costs and using rail network and water as main transport modes\, with road transport as supporting channel. Lastly\, Inclusive Transport involves improvements in the transportation network that enable all users\, including aging people\, persons with disability and children\, to get easy access to public transportation services at reasonable prices and with strategic development pathways for the country’s entire transport system.” \nDr. Achaka Sriboonruang\, Science and Technology Minister\, pointed out that the Science and Technology Ministry continues to support research projects that allow for increasing competitiveness and is relevant to the country’s 20-year development framework (2017-2036) which aims to raise the country’s economic competitiveness as it is moving towards a developed country. This can be achieved through the use of science\, technology and innovation as part of key drivers. Knowledge is fundamental to the improvement of capabilities in industrial development in diverse fields\, especially agro-industry\, food and alternative energy. To achieve the goal\, it is important that science and technology are effectively applied and transferred to schools and communities nationwide.”
