SUMMARY:AI in Education: A regional webinar for Thailand & Singapore business & education communities
DESCRIPTION:Artificial Intelligence has been with us for decades. Its uses have become widely embedded.  Generative AI (which now has several main platform offerings with ever-expanding capabilities) became popularly known only in late 2022. It is able to generate original looking content such as writing a term paper or research paper\, a speech\, creating images from text\, creating a podcast. \nIt is a great tool\, but there can be negative outcomes through misuse of AI – eg False information\, hallucinations\, intellectual property violations (many not new behaviours but potentially made easier by Gen AI). Prompting to instruct the generative AI platform has become an art and a science (Prompt Engineering) \nHow should Students use AI; what about Educators/Researchers\, and Institutions? \nJoin this webinar (organized by JFCCT’s Digital Economy/ICT and Sasin School of Management) for a dive into understanding trends and issues in AI in education\, which will be useful also in digital skills training in company environments. \nIn the Backgrounder: AI Governance (Table 1 in Annex) abounds. See Table 3 in the Annex for practices for AI in education relying on global\, regional and various national developments. \nA draft ‘ideal’ but non prescriptive policy paper will be provided before the event\, which will take in global\, regional and local practices and show sources. See item 4 in Annex in the Backgrounder. Please consider those issues\, they will be the main focus of the webinar. \nEvent Details: \nDate: Friday\, 29th November 2024 \nTime: 8:30-10:30 am (Indochina Time) \nRegistration: here \nNote: Please see the Backgrounder for more information: here \nPigeonhole: here  code:  JFCCTAI  (open 24 Nov – 30 Nov)

SUMMARY:EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)
DESCRIPTION:In October 2023\, the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) entered into its transitional phase. A mechanism that aims to incentivise exporting countries to decarbonise their carbon-intensive goods entering the EU market (cement\, iron and steel\, aluminium\, fertilisers\, electricity and hydrogen in preliminary stages)\, will shape the existing trade dynamics and accelerate sustainable development worldwide. Strong trade ties between Europe and Southeast Asia suggest the countries are expected to see an impact – some minimal and some more severe due to their significant export of goods covered under CBAM. \nThis webinar\, a second in the series of events on Carbon Pricing\, will explore: \n\nThe mechanics of CBAM from the transitional phase to its implementation in 2026\nHow companies can mitigate risks and assess opportunities\nBroader implications for the region and existing and potential domestic carbon policy frameworks\n\nEvent Details:\nDate: 1 July 2024\, Monday\nTime: 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm SGT\nVenue: Virtual (Zoom) A Zoom link will be sent 24 hours before the event\nRegistration Info: EuroCham & NBGs Members: FREE\nNon-Members: FREE\nRegister: HERE \nProgramme: \n3.50 pm:    Webinar Waiting Room Opens\n4.00 pm:    Welcome Remarks by Ms Nele Cornelis\, Executive Director at EuroCham Singapore\n4.05 pm:    Summary of 1st event on Carbon Pricing by Mr Federico Di Credico\, Managing Director Asia Pacific at ACT Group and Co-Chair of EuroCham Sustainability Committee\n4.10 pm:    Keynote Presentation by Mr Xavier Vanden Bosch\, Policy Officer on CBAM\, Energy and green taxation\, Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union (TAXUD) at European Commission\n4.35 pm:     Open and Interactive Q&A moderated by Mr Federico Di Credico\, Managing Director Asia Pacific at ACT Group and Co-Chair of EuroCham Sustainability Committee\n4.55 pm:      Closing Remarks by Mr Federico Di Credico\n5.00 pm:      End of Webinar \nFor more detail please visit here \n*The organizers reserve the right to change the programme content without giving prior notification or any reasons thereof.

SUMMARY:EU elections 2024
DESCRIPTION:Hundreds of millions of Europeans went to the polls between 6 and 9 June to select 720 members of the European Parliament\, and their votes have spoken – a rising support for the far-right\, and stinging defeat for the greens and liberals. \nElection results are showing that the Greens and the liberal\, pro-business Renew party spearheaded by French president Emmanuel Macron have lost significant number of seats in the Parliament\, potentially endangering the pro-European majority needed to back top officials and support EU laws. Meanwhile\, far-right and hard-right parties are expected to hold almost a quarter of the seats when the Parliament next sits\, up from a fifth in the last election in 2019. \nThat said\, support for the centre-oriented establishment held\, with the dominant European People’s Party (centre-right) and Socialists & Democrats (centre-left) faring just slightly better than they did in 2019 with around 45% of the votes (as of 10 June 2024). Together with Renew\, the so-called ‘grand coalition’ with EPP and S&D is expected to retain the slim majority of the Parliament\, making up around 56% of seats between them. These parties have for years cooperated at the EU level\, building a firewall to prevent the radical right from entering the political mainstream. However\, since votes in the Parliament are often decided issue-by-issue by finding a coalition that commands the required majority\, it could mean narrow voting margins especially for sensitive issues like those related to the European Green Deal. \nAlready\, questions abound about the future of Europe’s ambitious green transition. Not just that\, all eyes are on the EU to watch how it will move forward on issues like stronger national sovereignty and lesser interference from Brussels\, enlargement\, and immigration. \nThis webinar will unpack what the election results will mean for the EU internally\, its relationship with partners like ASEAN\, its outlook on international trade\, the future of the Green Deal\, and more. \nRegistration: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_MOvjK6nMQiuXqOJ1ghCj8g
